My mother went to an art show where a promising artist was handing out her business cards with the following translation in the English section. What does this mean? And who did this translation job?

Ma mère est allée à une exposition d’artistes peintres et une artiste qui a beaucoup de succès distribuait sa carte d’affaires à tout le monde, avec cette traduction dessus dans la partie anglaise. Mais,  qu’est-ce que ça veut dire et qui a fait cette traduction? :

The conception of the work of (Artist’s name*) turns around the idea of borders. Limits which ask only to be met. Good Translation Gone Bad/Traduction en folie June 10, 2009

My Virtual Assistant specialty is translation from English to French and vice versa. I seem to have a head for it and I enjoy the work. I love to be able to convey the right meaning and make the words sound nice when I am translating a text, a document, a website or anything for a client.

My translation rates are reasonable. I am not the most expensive translator around, nor am I the cheapest because I believe that you get what you pay for and this is why it angers me to see that people are advertising their services for translation at 5 cents or 10 cents per word and many of them are doing an atrocious job.

Yes, people will actually pay for this kind of translation and have it up on a website or on their products for the world to see. Is it because they can’t speak both languages? Is it because they do not care? Is it a lack of respect for their eventual customers or clients who speak the language that is so horribly translated? Or are they just cheap? They’d rather pay 5 cents per word for these ridiculous translations than a bit more for a professional job that is correctly done?

Like I said, you get what you pay for (and we get to laugh).

Ci-haut, des exemples de mauvaises traductions.

Ma spécialité en assistance virtuelle c’est la traduction de l’anglais au français et vice-versa. J’ai une tête pour ce genre de travail et il m’est agréable de trouver la bonne façon de bien dire les choses et d’envoyer le bon message lorsque je traduis un texte, un document, un site web ou quoi que ce soit pour un de mes clients.

Mon tarif de traduction est raisonnable. Je ne suis pas la plus dispendieuse sur le marché, ni la moins dispendieuse, car je crois qu’on en a pour notre argent. C’est pourquoi je suis choquée de constater à quel point il y a des gens qui s’improvisent traducteurs avec des tarifs ridicules de 5 ou 10 sous/mot et dont plusieurs font un travail absolument atroce.

Oui, les clients payent pour des traductions comme celles inscrites ci-haut et affichent ces horreurs sur leur site web ou leurs produits aux yeux de tous. Est-ce parce qu’ils ne sont pas bilingues? Est-ce parce qu’ils s’en foutent? Est-ce un manque de respect pour les personnes qui auront à lire ces mauvaises traductions? Sont-ils tout simplement trop radins? Ils préfèrent payer 5 sous par mot pour une traduction ridicule et sans aucun sens au lieu de débourser quelques sous de plus pour un travail professionnel et bien fait?

Comme je disais, ils en ont pour leur argent (et nous, on peut en rire).
